LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – Narumi Lichlyter, 96, is still missing two weeks later, and police have no idea who hit her with their automobile and left her for dead.
Lichlyter, or “Rumi” to friends and family, has been in and out of the hospital for the past two weeks after losing sensation throughout her whole body in a hit-and-run on November 17 near Tropicana and Mojave.
The Japanese-born Las Vegas resident claims she was hit while crossing the street from a shopping mall right across the street from the assisted living home she moved into four months ago.
“I stepped farther (in the crosswalk), I don’t have consciousness. I can’t remember anything. I was in a hospital bed when I woke up,” Lichlyter said while sitting inside her living facility’s main lobby Thursday afternoon.
Despite the fact that she claims the living facility provided a transport to the adjacent center, she chose to walk home to “get some exercise” after witnessing other facility members do so.
She said that those members walked quicker than her, leaving her a crossing cycle behind, although she only crossed the street when it was safe to do so.
She now has three shattered ribs, an injured shoulder, knee discomfort, and a head bump.
Thomas Lichlyter, her son, rushed up from Oregon to be at her side while she healed during the last two weeks.
Although the 96-year-old claims she felt “frozen” when she initially regained consciousness, her son adds that some pain is “melting” and is now just affecting the right side of her body.
“It’s definitely slowed her down, hampered her, handicapped her. She’s right-handed,” Tom said, sitting next to his mother. “She can’t do nothing with her left hand.”
