A Las Vegas Teen Spent Over a Year Locked in a Room Before Escaping and Calling Police
LAS VEGAS – An arrest report says that a teen from the Las Vegas area was locked in a room for more than a year before she got out and called the police.
Addy Gonzales, Maria Pasarin, and Daniel Omezcua were arrested because they were accused of false imprisonment and abusing children. In the report, Gonzales was called the teen’s mother, and Pasarin was called the teen’s grandmother. It’s not clear if Omezcua is related or not.
On Nov. 4, North Las Vegas police looked into what had happened. At 3:39 p.m., police were called to Spirit Sun, which is near 5th Street and Alexander Road, because they thought something was wrong. Police found a Hispanic woman using a ladder to try to get into a bedroom on the second floor.
Neighbors say that the girl went into the backyard of a house nearby and asked for food and water. The girl climbed out of the two-story house by tying clothes together, and then she tried to get back in by using a ladder.
“The girl also said that her parents locked her in her room and wouldn’t feed her or let her go to the bathroom,” NLVPD wrote in a report. The girl told the police that she ran away to get some water because she hadn’t eaten since the night before. She told the police that her mother, Gonzales, only gave her food or water when she came home.
The police called Gonzales and asked him why he had locked the girl in a room. The report said that police said Gonzales was “evasive” and didn’t want them in her house until she got back.
When NLVPD went into the room where the girl was being kept, they saw a box spring and a bed frame with a sheet on it, but no bed. NLVPD said there was a bucket full of urine and feces in the room, as well as a roll of toilet paper close by.
The arrest report said the girl told police she felt like she was in jail. A 13-year-old boy was also living in the house at the time, according to the report.
CPS said that there had been eight “unsubstantiated” reports in the past, some of which said that the child had been abused or neglected.
The girl had been living like this for “at least” a year, according to the police.
On Nov. 21, the suspects are expected to show up in court.
