A Series of Mailbox Thefts Has Residents of the Northwest Valley Concerned
LAS VEGAS – After a series of mailbox thefts, residents of the northwest valley are alarmed.
In the Centennial Hills neighborhood in Sierra Hills, neighbors have started sharing security camera footage depicting mailbox vandalism and theft.
“He sat in the front seat, walked over to the box, and popped it open,” claimed mail theft victim Mike May. “She exits the backseat, retrieves all the mail, and returns to assist for a few seconds before they both depart.”
May initially believed this was a unique incident, but he quickly discovered that several of his neighbors had experienced the same thing.
“Reaching out to Nextdoor and the Ring Neighborhood Watch, it has spread to multiple communities over the previous weeks,” May added. It appears that they are targeting five to six communities per night, and it’s gotten out of hand.
Tiffany Wolfe stated that she imagines this type of theft to be especially problematic for postal service recipients. Many elderly people in the area rely on the mail to receive their social security checks and similar items, and this is frightening for them because what will happen if they don’t receive it?
Thefts and vandalism have been reported to the police, and several neighbors have contacted the United States Postal Service for assistance.
