LAS VEGAS – According to an email from the school’s principal, a student was arrested after a handgun was discovered on the Palo Verde High School campus on Friday morning.
Principal Lisa Schumacher informed parents that Clark County School District Police were contacted after officials received a report of a gun on campus. The school was placed on lockdown during the inquiry “out of an abundance of caution,” according to Schumacher.
Officers seized a handgun and arrested a student. “There were no threats to the school,” Schumacher said.
Schumacher recommended parents to talk to their children about school safety.
“If they ever face a situation where they are unsure whether or not to share information with an adult, please remind them to never hesitate to report anything that may be a safety issue,” she said.
Students and parents can report concerns about school safety by visiting safevoicenv.org or calling 1-833-216-SAFE (7233).
