After Saturday’s Windstorm, the Valley May Expect a Chilly Week
LAS VEGAS – Sunday’s winds are expected to be around half as strong as Saturday’s gusty winds in the Las Vegas Valley.
However, temperatures will drop significantly.
The National Weather Service forecasts a high around 67 degrees with north-northwest winds of 7 to 17 mph with gusts up to 26 mph.
Saturday’s maximum temperature hit 83 degrees in the early afternoon before gradually decreasing to 66 degrees around midnight. Red Rock Canyon recorded winds of high to 65 mph, while most airports recorded winds in the 50s for more than a dozen hours. Most mountain ranges were obscured by blowing dust, and visibility was around half of typical.
Throughout the most of the day, the air quality in various regions of the central valley was rated as moderate to extremely dangerous.
Around midnight, a cold front from the Pacific Northwest passed into the valley, changing the prevailing winds from south-southwest to north-northwest.
The low on Monday should be around 47, followed by an afternoon high of 67.
