According to an arrest report, family and friends of a lady allegedly shot and killed by her live-in boyfriend said police they were attempting to get her to leave him because he was physically assaulting her.
Ishmil Swafford, 43, is charged with murder in the death of Yetundi Yvonne Negritia Maples, 46. On Thursday, Oct. 27, she was shot at the home they shared on Spectacular Bid Drive near Buffalo Drive and Russell Road. Around 1 a.m., the gunfire was reported to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Maple’s 6-year-old son was upstairs when he heard a gunshot and ran downstairs to see his mother’s face covered in blood, according to the arrest report.
Detectives spoke with a neighbor who reported hearing loud “bangs” and fighting from the front of the house. He then noticed a small child walking out from the house, saying to an older man, “you harmed my mom.” According to the allegation, the man then left on a motorbike after responding, “Your mom will be fine.”
When police interviewed him, he identified Swafford as the one who shot his mother and said it was because his “mom became upset.”
The youngster went to a neighbor’s house for assistance, and 911 was dialed.
Maples died as a result of a fatal gunshot wound to the head, according to the coroner’s findings.
