Over the holiday weekend, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue logged nearly 300 emergency responses linked to Independence Day celebrations. From 6 p.m. on the 4th until 4 a.m. on the 5th, crews tackled 293 separate incidents, along with responding to a total of 1,193 emergency calls. Amid the festivities, 116 outdoor fires blazed, seven building fires erupted, and two individuals sustained burns. A significant enforcement push also saw 64 licensed fireworks booths inspected, while nearly 8,900 pounds of illegal fireworks were confiscated and 149 citations issued through the “You Light It, We Write It” campaign in coordination with Metro Police and Clark County. Meanwhile, the American Red Cross assisted families affected by eight residential fires and 24 people in need of shelter, food, and basic necessities. The Animal Foundation also reported a surge in lost pets, taking in 45 animals between July 4 and 5. These numbers aren’t just statistics; they highlight a failure to balance liberty with responsibility. Celebrating our nation’s birth should never come at the expense of public safety, first responders’ time, or the community’s well-being. If fireworks are your tradition, make them legal, safe, and respectful—or let the professionals handle the show. Freedom thrives when responsibility follows.
