LAS VEGAS – COVID-19 This week, the number of confirmed cases and hospitalizations in Clark County and across the state increased to 19; however, these numbers are still far below those seen earlier in the pandemic.
Clark County’s 14-day moving average of daily new cases is up to 96 from 94 the prior week. The statewide average rose from 128 to 135.
There were a total of 152 hospitalizations in the county due to COVID-19, up from 133 the week before. Hospitalization rates across the state rose from 164 to 190.
COVID-19 is a federal indicator based on cases and hospitalizations, and as of last week, only Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii, Utah, and the District of Columbia have low community levels throughout all counties. This week, only Arizona, Hawaii, New Hampshire, Utah, and the District of Columbia had all counties at low levels, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). White Pine County, Nevada, is seeing moderate community levels.
The daily average number of deaths from COVID-19 has dropped to zero in both Clark County and the state as a whole during the past 14 days.
There was a 1% drop in new cases, a 6% drop in hospitalizations, and a nearly 10% drop in fatalities across the country.
Scientists have given the extremely contagious XBB.1.5 subvariant of omicron X the moniker “kraken” in honor of the legendary sea monster.
Authorities claim that most people have developed immunity through vaccination, earlier infections, or both, therefore the number of cases has remained low despite the prevalence of a variety that is thought to spread more quickly than any prior strain.
