Round Mountain, NV – Nye County Sheriff’s deputies uncovered a substantial illegal marijuana growing operation in a remote area of Round Mountain on August 30th. The operation, which included approximately 2,000 marijuana plants in various stages of growth, was discovered after deputies responded to reports of suspicious activity in the area.
Upon arrival, deputies found a sophisticated cultivation setup with plants ranging in size from seedlings to mature, flowering plants. In addition to the plants, deputies also discovered various chemicals used in the growing process, some of which may be illegal for use in the United States. The presence of these chemicals raises concerns about potential environmental damage and health risks.
As deputies approached the site, four individuals fled the scene and remain at large. The property owner, however, was located and interviewed. They are now facing felony charges related to the illegal cultivation of marijuana.
“This operation was significant in size and scope,” said Sheriff Joe McGill. “The illegal cultivation of marijuana poses a threat to our community, and we are committed to eradicating these operations and holding those responsible accountable.”
The investigation is ongoing, and the Nye County Sheriff’s Office is actively pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the four individuals who fled the scene. The eradicated marijuana plants and chemicals will be disposed of in accordance with state and federal regulations.
This bust serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in combating illegal marijuana cultivation, even in states where recreational marijuana is legal. The Nye County Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with information about illegal grow operations to contact them immediately.
