LAS VEGAS – Robert Telles, a former politician, and accused killer, has had his request to remove Clark County District Court Judge Michelle Leavitt from his case denied. The decision was made after Leavitt raised concerns about Telles’ lack of experience and knowledge of criminal law during a hearing on March 27.

Leavitt warned Telles that it was unwise to represent himself, particularly in a first-degree murder case. Telles had admitted in court that he had only handled a few civil jury cases and was unaware of the full extent of the charges against him.

Telles was reportedly unhappy with the media coverage of Leavitt’s line of questioning during the hearing, claiming that it called his intentions and capacity into question. In response, Leavitt stated that the court could not control media coverage of the case.

Telles’ trial is scheduled to begin on November 6, and he invited journalists to reach out to him following the recent hearing. Despite his dissatisfaction with Leavitt’s involvement, she will continue to preside over the case as it moves forward.
