Las Vegas Aces center Megan Gustafson’s dream of becoming an Olympian becomes a reality as she’s officially named to the 2024 Spain Olympic Women’s Basketball Team!
“This is an incredible honor,” Gustafson said. “Representing Spain in the Olympics has been a lifelong dream, and I’m so grateful for this opportunity. I’m excited and ready to get started!”
The naturalized Spanish citizen made her debut for the national team in February’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament, averaging a team-high 14.3 points and leading Spain to a qualifying berth.
Gustafson joins a formidable Spanish team that will open their Olympic campaign on July 28th against China in Group A. They’ll then face Puerto Rico and Serbia before the knockout stages begin in August.
Spain will be aiming to improve upon their silver medal performance at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
This selection adds Gustafson to the growing list of Aces players competing in Paris. Chelsea Gray, Kelsey Plum, A’ja Wilson, and Jackie Young will suit up for Team USA, while Tiffany Hayes will represent Azerbaijan in 3×3 basketball.
The Olympic Women’s Basketball tournament will see three groups of four teams compete in a preliminary round. The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-place finishers, will advance to the quarterfinals.
Best of luck to Megan Gustafson and all the Aces competing in the Olympics!
