LAS VEGAS – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has reported that a man is accused of killing his mother on Mother’s Day. According to LVMPD, they received a report of an unresponsive female at a residence in the 6100 block of Caprino Avenue near Smoke Ranch and Jones at approximately 6:25 a.m. on Sunday. Police officers arrived at the location and discovered a woman in the backyard of the residence who had sustained multiple stab wounds. Medical professionals were summoned, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
After an investigation, LVMPD identified the woman’s son, Aaron Cooney, aged 49, as the suspect in the stabbing. LVMPD has reported that Cooney is alleged to have stabbed his mother multiple times. Cooney was transported to the Clark County Detention Center and charged with open murder, according to LVMPD.
