Las Vegas Police Labeled the Area Where an Officer Was Killed a Hot Place for Violent Crime
LAS VEGAS – Thursday morning’s police shot near the intersection of Flamingo and University Center Drive is not the first incident of its kind in the vicinity.
A man who did not wish to be recognized stated, “This street is plagued with crime.” A couple of years ago, I lived here, and this is a dangerous street.
Nicole Castro, who works nearby, remarked, “This neighborhood has gotten significantly worse.”
Castro is employed by Buca di Beppo, directly across the street from where the shooting that murdered Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer Truong Thai occurred. She stated that Officer Thai used to frequent the establishment.
Castro stated, “It is really sorry to hear that he has passed away.”
This officer is not the first to be shot in this area. In September, another Metro officer was shot and injured in the neighborhood, and Metro detained a guy last month for allegedly stabbing four homeless individuals.
Sheriff Joe Lombardo stated, “It’s in close proximity, and it’s an area that we’ve been focusing on recently.”
Last month, Metro also announced it will begin adding patrol officers to assist curb violent crime in the neighborhood.
Unidentified man: “The police are frequently present in this area.” Particularly along this route near this commercial area.
Lombardo stated, “We’re going to put in our best effort to ensure safety in that community area.”
