Las Vegas, NV – A 47-year-old man is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly stabbing an elderly man on the Las Vegas Strip in what police are calling a random attack.

The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 29th, outside the Excalibur Hotel and Casino. According to police documents, Adam Carter approached the victim and asked for water before suddenly attacking him with a knife. The victim, who is over 60 years old, suffered serious injuries and required surgery but is expected to survive.

Officers responding to the scene located the victim on the pedestrian bridge connecting the Excalibur to the New York-New York Hotel & Casino. Carter was apprehended nearby, and a six-inch steak knife was recovered from the street.

Carter reportedly admitted to police that he had recently consumed methamphetamine and alcohol. Video evidence from the scene corroborated the victim’s account of the attack.

Due to the victim’s age, Carter faces an enhanced attempted murder charge. He refused to appear in court for his initial appearance on October 1st and again on Thursday, prompting judges to deny bail in both instances. Judge Elana Lee Graham ordered that Carter be brought to his next scheduled appearance “by any means necessary.”

This incident follows a previous arrest for Carter just weeks earlier. He was taken into custody for property damage at Sunrise Medical Center on September 3rd. He subsequently accepted a plea deal, agreeing to pay restitution and serve probation.

Las Vegas Metro police are no longer releasing booking photos, citing a recent circuit court ruling.
