A man was arrested Monday in Sparks, Nevada, after allegedly firing gunshots near Yvonne Shaw Middle School, prompting lockdowns at two nearby schools.
The incident occurred around 11:45 a.m. when Washoe County School Police reported hearing gunfire near the middle school. Investigators traced the source of the shots to a residence on the 800 block of Alena Way.
Police approached the home and made verbal contact with the suspect, who exited the residence without incident. He was arrested and charged with aiming and/or discharging a weapon at another person.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and authorities confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The gunfire caused Yvonne Shaw Middle School and Spanish Springs High School to go into lockdown as a precaution. Both lockdowns were lifted after the suspect was taken into custody.
Local authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
