LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – Monday’s avalanche at Mt. Charleston resulted in the death of a man.

The avalanche occurred in a backcountry area of Spring Mountain National Recreation Area on January 9, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

A man was entangled in an avalanche near Mummy Springs Trail on Mt. Charleston, according to the Las Vegas Police Department. According to sources, first responders performed CPR for thirty minutes.

According to the police, recovering from the mountain’s wind and sleet is challenging.

A teenager snowboarding on Mt. Charleston was killed by an avalanche 18 years ago. A snow wave swept the 13-year-old off a ski lift.

A spokesperson for Lee Canyon stated that they were aware of the incident. The Lee Canyon snow safety team stated that they closed the upper lifts around 2:40 p.m. Monday because of the snow’s high water content but not because of the incident. According to Lee Canyon, the resort’s snow safety team will mitigate avalanches on Tuesday morning.
