LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – According to officials, a Las Vegas man shot and murdered his ex-sister girlfriend’s after an argument between the two women and his current girlfriend.
If convicted of murder, Joseph Kennard, 26, faces life in jail without the chance of release. He is now being detained without bond at the Clark County Detention Center.
Officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to a residence on Yucca Avenue and S 10th Street at 12 p.m. on Nov. 28. to track down a lady who claimed Kennard had shot her sister.
According to the arrest report, Kennard was in the residence with an AR semi-automatic weapon. The woman, named as Rachel Lewis by authorities, was transferred to Sunrise Trauma Center and died as a result of a gunshot wound.
According to witnesses, Lewis and her sister, Kennard’s ex-girlfriend and the mother of his kid, were at the apartment when they met Kennard’s current girlfriend.
A scuffle erupted, and Kennard eventually approached Lewis’s car and fired at her once or twice, according to witnesses.
In an interview with police, Kennard stated that he and his current girlfriend had been arguing earlier that day when he left the house to buy marijuana.
When he returned, he stated that she desired to smoke but that he did not. He and his girlfriend got into a violent confrontation before she urged him to “call his baby mommy” before locking him out of the house.
Kennard did so, but Lewis arrived earlier and fought Kennard’s girlfriend.
As the struggle continued, Kennard walked into the home to get his weapon and commanded Lewis to cease fighting, according to the police report.
“Joseph fires two rounds from his gun towards the lower extremity of Rachel,” the report reads, that “he shot at Rachel in an attempt to get her to stop attacking [his girlfriend.]”
Kennard phoned 911 and began treating Lewis as soon as he shot her. During an interview with police, Kennard stated that the event was not planned and that he was not thinking when he fired the trigger. Kennard informed authorities that he regretted his decision after understanding he had injured the victim.
Lewis died as a consequence of internal injuries to multiple organs and a fractured femur, according to the police report.
