LAS VEGAS – A man who allegedly crashed a stolen Las Vegas police officer’s marked vehicle into an SUV, seriously injuring two people, was reported to have possibly used drugs and was experiencing a “mental breakdown,” according to arrest reports.
Clyde Cabulisan was taken into custody on multiple counts after the incident, which began at the intersection of Blue Diamond and Buffalo roads at about 11 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31.
According to the reports from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, someone called 911 saying a naked man was walking in the intersection and appeared to be trying to get hit by passing cars.
Police wrote that they later learned Cabulisan’s brother called LVMPD to report that Cabulisan might have taken cocaine and marijuana at a party earlier in the night and suffered a “mental breakdown.”
An officer arrived on scene in a patrol truck, a Ford F150. The officer said he turned on his emergency lights and tried to “corral” Cabulisan so nobody would hit him.
Cabulisan walked to the driver’s side door, and the officer got out and told him to go to the front of the car, according to the reports. Cabulisan said “no” and rushed at the officer, punching him several times.
The officer “tried to bring Cabulisan down to the ground but slipped,” the report states. “Cabulisan then got into the driver’s seat of the patrol vehicle.”
The officer said he pulled Cabulisan out but Cabulisan slipped out of his hold and got back into the driver’s seat. When he saw Cabulisan’s foot hit the gas and the vehicle move forward, the officer disengaged.
That led to a chase as Cabulisan allegedly drove the stolen vehicle east on Blue Diamond and then north on Rainbow. Police said he reached speeds between 65 and 80 miles per hour at certain points.
The chase came to an end when Cabulisan crashed into an SUV with two people inside. He tried to run away from the scene but was taken into custody and transported to UMC with a brain bleed and a laceration to the head.
Police described his eyes as bloodshot and got a warrant for a blood draw, writing that he could not be administered a field sobriety test for “safety reasons.”
There were two people in the SUV that Cabulisan crashed into. One person suffered internal bleeding, and the other had a broken hip, neck and right wrist, along with a liver laceration.
Cabulisan remained hospitalized Thursday morning and was not transported for an initial court appearance. He is facing charges in two separate cases, one for the theft of the patrol car and the other for the crash, and is being held without bail. The next court hearing is scheduled for Nov. 7.
This is a developing story. Please stay tuned for updates.
