Mayhem Street Legal Drag Racing Returns To Vegas This Friday

LAS VEGAS – This year, “Mayhem” street-legal drag racing will be back at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, according to the people who put it on.

“Summit Racing Equipment Mayhem Street-Legal Drags at The Strip at LVMS” is called a “safe alternative to illegal street racing.”

Drivers can “race each other on the safer confines of its NHRA-sanctioned quarter-mile drag strip” as part of the experience.

The calendar says that the first street-legal drag for “Mayhem” will be this Friday, Feb. 3.

LVMS says that Summit Racing Equipment Mayhem started more than 20 years ago as a way to stop illegal street racing in the Las Vegas Valley.

The event is open to all licensed and registered vehicles that can be driven on the street. LVMS said that participants must drive their own cars to the track, and all tires must have treads that are legal for use on the street.

The rules of the event say that one passenger will be allowed to ride with the driver down the track. However, all vehicles must go 14 seconds or slower (in order to have a passenger) in order to be able to carry a passenger.

Here is a range of how much the event will cost:

  • Car and driver (tech card): $20
  • Ride-along passenger: $15
  • Car show vehicle/pit area parking pass: $15
  • Spectator: $5

Those in charge of Mayhem events say that the ticket office closes at 10:30 p.m. The gates for competitors open at 5 p.m., and the races begin at 6 p.m. and go until midnight.
