More Than 400K People Are Anticipated to Celebrate New Year’s Eve in Sin City Las Vegas Police Said

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – Thousands of revelers are expected to ring in the new year in Sin City once more, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

During a news conference Tuesday, Las Vegas police Undersheriff Andrew Walsh stated that over 400,000 people are expected to celebrate New Year’s Eve between downtown and on the Strip.

“I can assure you, we are doing everything we can to be prepared to keep this city safe during New Year’s Eve,” Walsh said.

In terms of traffic closures, the Interstate 15 off-ramps at Flamingo Road will be closed in both directions beginning at 5 p.m., according to LVMPD. Saturday.

Walsh stated that the Las Vegas Strip will be closed from Spring Mountain to Tropicana beginning at 6:30 p.m.

According to LVMPD, Las Vegas Boulevard will be closed to all vehicle traffic by 8 p.m.

Spring Mountain and Tropicana will remain available to traffic in all directions, as will the freeway off-ramps for these roads, according to Walsh.

The LVMPD’s social media accounts will be updated with “real-time” information regarding road closures, according to police.

“As usual, we will have a very large law enforcement contingent that will be on Las Vegas Boulevard and in downtown Las Vegas,” Walsh said during the news conference.

Every New Year’s Eve, police will enforce rules such as no glass bottles permitted on the Strip after 6 p.m. Saturday, 6 a.m. Sunday, January 1.

LVMPD also warns that bulky items, such as baggage, diaper bags, and computer bags, will be prohibited. Authorities have said that no structures greater than 12 x 12 x 16 would be authorized.

Police have also stated that no strollers or carts of any type would be permitted on the Strip.

“We also ask those that are visiting the Strip and downtown to please keep an eye on things. As they see suspicious activity or anything that looks suspicious, if you see something, say something.” Walsh asked of revelers. “Nothing is too small to call us about. If it looks out of place, make sure you’re calling law enforcement or telling an officer that you see posted in one of the venues.”

“With everyone’s cooperation, this New Year’s Eve will be a safe celebration, as they have been in the past, and it will be a safe one for everyone to enjoy,” Walsh concluded.
