LAS VEGAS, NV – Chilling details emerged in court on Wednesday as Colin Czech, 29, faced open murder charges for the gruesome killing of Kenneth Brown on Charleston Blvd. and 3rd Street. Czech’s defense attorney, David Westbrook, immediately requested a competency evaluation for his client.
Bizarre Confession
Czech reportedly admitted to police that he had been awake for five days due to a feeling of “possession.” He was discovered kneeling over Brown’s body and confessed to fighting a “shape-shifter” and consuming the victim’s eyes and ears.
Focus Shifts to Competency
“The allegations are shocking,” Westbrook acknowledged. “We need to ensure my client is competent to stand trial, meaning he understands the charges and can assist in his defense. At this point, I believe he is not competent.”
Potential Delays
Westbrook indicated Czech may be sent to a state mental facility to receive treatment aimed at restoring his competency. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson notes that these proceedings can take years, and some defendants never become competent enough to face trial.
What’s Next?
Prosecution is on hold pending the outcome of Czech’s mental evaluation. He remains in custody without bail. A competency hearing is scheduled for May 24th.
