Nevada Approves Hand Counting

LAS VEGAS – The Nevada secretary of state’s office passed regulations on Friday that would allow counties to hand count votes beginning with the next midterm elections this fall in areas of rural Nevada where confusion about voting machines has led to plans to switch to hand counting.
But the one county that has been at the front of the push to count by hand will no longer have to follow the new rules.
This is because Nye County, which is in the desert between Las Vegas and Reno, will use the same machines that are usually used to count mail-in ballots in addition to the hand count. Mark Kampf, who is the interim Nye County Clerk, said in an interview earlier this month that all ballots in Nye County will look like mail-in ballots.
Nye County is one of the first places in the country to do something about election conspiracies that have to do with not trusting voting machines. Esmeralda is the county in Nevada with the fewest people. Officials spent more than seven hours counting the 317 ballots cast in the June primary by hand.
