Las Vegas, Nevada – A brand of mushroom-infused candies has been pulled from shelves after causing severe illnesses in people across the United States, including Nevada. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a recall of all Diamond Shruumz products, citing potential contamination with psychoactive compounds.

Nationwide Recall Following Hospitalizations

The recall covers all flavors and varieties of Diamond Shruumz candies, including microdosing chocolate bars, infused cones, and micro-dose and mega-dose/extreme gummies. Alarmingly, 39 individuals across 20 states, including Nevada, have reported becoming sick after consuming the products. Of these cases, 23 people required hospitalization.

Prophet Premium Blends, LLC, the company behind Diamond Shruumz, suspects muscimol, a hallucinogenic chemical found in certain mushrooms, might be responsible for the illnesses. Symptoms reported by consumers include seizures, difficulty breathing, and a decreased level of consciousness. Other concerning reactions include nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, hallucinations, uncontrollable movements, irregular heart rhythm, blood pressure fluctuations, excessive sweating, and flushed skin.

FDA Investigation Points to Unlabeled Psychoactive Substances

The FDA, along with state health agencies, is currently testing the recalled products. Initial tests on two Diamond Shruumz chocolate bars revealed the presence of:

• 4-acetoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (4-acetoxy-DMT): Also known as O-acetylpsilocin or psilacetin, this psychoactive compound is chemically similar to psilocybin, a hallucinogenic compound found in “magic mushrooms.”
• Desmethoxyyangonin, Dihydrokavain, and Kava: These kavalactones are naturally occurring compounds in kava root, known to have sedative and relaxing effects. However, they can be dangerous in high doses or when combined with other substances.

Consumer Warning: Do Not Consume Diamond Shruumz Products

The FDA urges consumers to avoid all Diamond Shruumz candies. If you have already purchased these products, do not eat them and dispose of them safely.

Anyone who has consumed Diamond Shruumz products and is experiencing concerning symptoms should seek immediate medical attention.
