Aaron Harris, 54, has admitted to killing his wife after previously denying responsibility for more than five years.
Harris was on trial for the murder of Candice Harris when he accepted a plea deal Thursday, pleading guilty to three felony charges: murder with the use of a deadly weapon, lewdness with a child under 14, and sexual assault. The agreement calls for a sentence of 32 years to life in the Nevada Department of Corrections. Without the plea, Harris faced the possibility of life in prison without parole if convicted by a jury.
Evidence presented by prosecutors included clothing worn by Candice Harris on the day she disappeared, cellophane allegedly used in the crime, and GPS data from Harris’s ankle monitor tied to a prior case. The tracking showed Harris in his wife’s car and later in the Henderson desert area where her body was found.
During past interviews, Harris denied the killing, claiming he discovered his wife’s body but never disclosed that to 911 operators. He also denied separate allegations of sexual abuse.
Sentencing is scheduled for October 28.
