A Las Vegas woman, Tiffany Martinez (35), is facing a multitude of serious charges stemming from an incident involving a man she met online. Martinez is currently in custody at the Clark County Detention Center after being arrested on May 31st.
According to the victim, a 51-year-old man who wishes to remain anonymous, he met Martinez on Facebook dating and had been communicating with her for a short period. When Martinez expressed needing temporary housing due to roommate issues, the victim picked her up at a gas station near Decatur and Cactus, bringing his 3-year-old son along for the ride.
The victim alleges that after a drink, he experienced disorientation and difficulty waking the following day. He further claims to have discovered missing personal belongings, including his wallet, firearms, phone, and car keys. His son also exhibited unusual behavior and vomiting, leading him to believe the child may have been similarly affected. Hospital tests confirmed the presence of fentanyl in both their systems.
The victim later identified Martinez through social media, and a background check revealed six prior felony convictions in California and Nevada between 2007 and 2021.
Martinez’s account of the events differs significantly. While admitting to spending time with the victim, she accuses him of unwanted sexual advances. However, video surveillance from the victim’s apartment contradicts her claims, while capturing a portion of the alleged burglary.
Despite denying fentanyl use due to its danger, Martinez did acknowledge stealing the victim’s car and using methamphetamine. The vehicle was later found abandoned near Downtown Summerlin, containing Martinez’s identification, credit cards, and clothing seen in gas station footage. Additionally, the car yielded a stash of methamphetamine hidden within the clothing.
A second vehicle, containing credit cards, checkbooks, and social security cards, was discovered at Martinez’s residence. While admitting possession of the car, Martinez claims the owner, another online acquaintance, encouraged her to take it for an insurance claim.
Martinez is facing over a dozen charges, including attempted murder, robbery, child abuse, and grand larceny. She remains in custody and is scheduled for a court appearance on June 18th. This case serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with online dating, and the importance of caution and vigilance when meeting strangers.
