Parents at Joseph Neal STEAM Academy are locked in a fierce battle with the school’s principal. They allege the principal’s leadership style is driving away teachers and neglecting student needs.
Teacher Exodus and Parent Concerns
Jennifer Jackson, a concerned parent, says the situation is dire. “Teachers have reached a breaking point,” she stated. “They’re leaving due to the way they’re treated – yelling and berating in front of colleagues is unprofessional.”
The Clark County Education Association (CCEA) confirms receiving complaints from teachers. “We’re currently investigating the allegations,” said John Vellardita, CCEA Executive Director.
A growing number of teacher vacancies has parents worried about the impact on their children’s education. The Clark County School District (CCSD) website currently lists 12 open positions at Joseph Neal, mostly for teachers.
Safety Concerns and Calls for Change
Parents brought their grievances to the recent School Board meeting. Jaclyn Ziegert, another parent, expressed her dissatisfaction with how a student incident was handled. “The administration failed to protect my child,” she stated. “This ultimately concerns student safety.”
While trustees are unable to respond to public comments, some parents like Heather Brown are prepared to take legal action. “We won’t be silenced,” she declared. “This principal’s leadership is clearly questionable.”
Demanding Investigation and Potential Removal
Marlene Arellano, a parent with two sons at the school, says the regional superintendent’s response was insufficient. “They offered help, but claim the principal did nothing wrong and will remain,” Arellano revealed.
This answer is unacceptable to Arellano and other parents. They are demanding a thorough investigation into the situation. Arellano even contemplates removing her younger son if the principal stays. “His education is at stake,” she expressed. “I fear a long-term substitute or a new teacher could disrupt his learning.”
Seeking Answers and Transparency
Efforts have been made to reach the principal for comment via email. Additionally, requests for interviews have been sent to the school board and the CCSD. The CCSD acknowledged the concerns raised at the board meeting and committed to maintaining communication.
