Peppermill Restaurant Celebrates 50th Anniversary

LAS VEGAS – The Peppermill restaurant, located off Las Vegas Boulevard and Convention Center Drive, is a testimony to its time, still existing in its original site, which was formerly flanked by big-name casinos like the Stardust and the Riveria.

The Peppermill first opened its doors on December 26, 1972, and has since become a local favorite for many.

Once inside, the retro-modern design and fireside lounge transport you back in time, serving as a backdrop in several films and TV shows such as Casino and Giada at Home.

According to Executive Chef Nicholas Orth, there is a place for everyone. Not just locals and visitors, but even celebrities such as Floyd Mayweather and Criss Angel, to mention a few, visit.

“My parents physically took me in here and had breakfast following the day I was born, and my mom happens to be the general manager,” Orth explained. “My father has worked here, as have uncles and every other member of my family. So, Peppermill is in our DNA, and we’re commemorating 50 years of providing an incredible experience for my family while also providing that same experience for everyone else.”

Customers like Harry Spero return for nostalgia, as well as the big portions of food and unusual atmosphere.

“I’ve been coming here for 47 years, and I had a Denver omelet the first time I came here in 1975,” Spero told 8 News Now. “I brought my children here to show them the history of this location. This establishment hasn’t altered; the waiters still wear the same uniforms. “I’ll keep bringing them and my grandchildren here.”

Sage Schuitevoerder of San Diego brings his family and friends to the Peppermill whenever they come to town.

“It’s a really exciting environment, the food is amazing, and you really get a feel of Las Vegas with a lot of the personal touches. Waitresses are always cheerful, and the environment is pleasant.”

Chef Ortho has begun planning for the next 50 years. He wants to maintain that atmosphere with new AC units, tableware, and other items.

“They have expectations when they come in the door, just like I did the last time and the time before that, and we want to make sure we live up to those expectations,” Orth explained.

The Peppermill is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a party on Monday, December 26 at 9:30 a.m. There will be a cake, balloons, beverages, and food specials, as well as special guests like as Penn and Teller. The entire community is welcome.
