LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – The eligibility rules for the rental assistance program that helped thousands of households escape eviction due to the epidemic have altered.
In order to apply for the Clark County CARES Housing Assistance Program (CHAP), applicants must now present an eviction notice and proof of a recent rent increase.
Additionally, applicants must have a fixed income. Since the criteria have changed, a representative of the National Compliance Division (NCD) said she anticipates seeing an increase in the number of individuals requesting assistance, but added that NCD has been working to educate the public about the changes for months.
“We tried to encourage as many tenants to get out there and get jobs, get on their feet because this will end. It will go away,” said Alisha Freeman, regional compliance eviction director for NCD. “It could sound a little harsh for Clark County to say such a term. However, it’s just the truth. It’s what’s needed for people to get back on their feet, get out there, get jobs, and do what you have to do for your family.”
