The First Clark County Flu Deaths of the Season Have Been Reported
LAS VEGAS – According to the Southern Nevada Health District, two women in Clark County have died as a result of the flu this season.
One woman was in her forties, the other in her sixties. The date of their deaths is unknown.
“These deaths are a tragedy, and I offer my condolences to the families and friends of these women,” said Dr. Fermin Leguen, District Health Officer for the Southern Nevada Health District.
In Clark County, flu cases are on the rise. During the week of November 13 to November 19, there were 67 influenza-related hospitalizations, a 72% increase over the previous week. More than half of the hospitalized patients are 50 or older. Patient visits to emergency rooms and urgent care clinics are also increasing. In Nevada, the flu activity level is classified as “high.”

The health district recommends flu shots for everyone aged 6 months and up, and urges all southern Nevada residents to get vaccinated this season. Older adults, younger children, pregnant women, and anyone with an underlying medical condition are the persons most at risk for serious illness from the flu.
The influenza season lasts from October through May.
