LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – As the number of respiratory diseases affecting children in Nevada continues to rise, the state said on Monday that it will expedite the issuance of some nursing licenses to help with the inflow of pediatric patients.
The Southern Nevada Health District reported more than 1,800 instances of RSV in November, a 200% increase from the same period previous year, on Friday.
As a consequence of the inflow of sick pediatric patients, the Nevada Hospital Association and the Board of Nursing will create a new approach to “ensure staffing needs are satisfied addressing the influx of sick pediatric patients.”
The state claims that as part of the procedure, “any nurse a hospital believes vital to assist with the present pediatric crisis will have their application reviewed quickly by the NSBN.”
According to the governor’s office, “those applicants who match the legal criteria of the law will be awarded a temporary license.”
The complete statement issued by Governor Sisolak’s office is available below.
Last week, the Governor’s Office met with the Nevada Hospital Association and other stakeholders to discuss potential quick remedies. This involves a new protocol between the Board of Nursing and the NHA to guarantee that staffing demands for the surge of unwell pediatric patients are satisfied. The NSBN will process any nurse application that a hospital thinks essential to assist with the present pediatric crisis. Applicants who fulfill the legal criteria of the legislation will be awarded a temporary license. The quick processing will allow nurses to begin caring for patients as soon as possible.
