LAS VEGAS – North Las Vegas police swiftly responded to a devastating multi-vehicle crash on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the tragic death of a young pedestrian. The incident unfolded at the intersection of Belmont St. and E. Carey Ave., prompting the immediate dispatch of officers, the North Las Vegas Fire Department, and medical personnel.
Upon arrival, authorities discovered a collision involving four vehicles and a pedestrian who had been struck by one of the vehicles. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The NLVPD Traffic Bureau’s Major Collision Investigation Unit took charge of the case, launching a comprehensive investigation.
Preliminary findings from the investigation revealed that a 2005 Cadillac Escalade and a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro were both traveling northbound on Belmont St., approaching E. Carey Ave., in a reckless manner. Meanwhile, a work pickup truck and a Chevrolet Traverse had come to a stop at the intersection, adhering to the four-way stop regulations.
Tragically, as the work pickup attempted to cross the intersection, the Cadillac Escalade failed to obey the stop sign, colliding with the pickup. The impact redirected the Cadillac Escalade, causing it to strike the Chevrolet Traverse as well. Despite the initial collisions, the Cadillac Escalade continued its northbound trajectory on Belmont St., eventually losing control.
In a horrifying turn of events near the intersection of Belmont St. and Broadway Ave., the Cadillac Escalade veered onto the east sidewalk of Belmont St., fatally striking a young female pedestrian. The driver of the Cadillac Escalade fled the scene on foot and is currently at large, according to North Las Vegas police.
However, not all parties involved in the incident attempted to escape responsibility. The adult male driver of the Chevrolet Camaro exhibited commendable behavior by stopping and remaining at the scene. He was subsequently arrested on traffic-related charges. The driver of the Chevrolet Traverse sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of the work pickup sustained minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.
The identity of the deceased pedestrian, along with the exact cause and manner of death, will be disclosed by the Clark County Coroner’s Office once the next of kin has been notified.
The investigation into this tragic event remains ongoing. Authorities urge anyone with information related to the incident to contact the North Las Vegas Police Department at 702-633-9111.
