Las Vegas, NV – Health officials are conducting a tuberculosis (TB) investigation at Arturo Cambeiro Elementary School after identifying a positive case. The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) is working closely with the Clark County School District to address potential exposures.
Previous Investigation
This investigation follows a similar situation in December 2023, where a single individual with active TB visited numerous schools within the district. Students and staff at Ruthe Deskin Elementary School were previously identified as having potential TB exposure.
Communication and Testing Plan
A letter has been sent to school families and staff at Arturo Cambeiro Elementary School regarding the situation. The letter outlines the following key points:
- An individual at the school has been diagnosed with active TB.
- SNHD is collaborating with the school district to assess potential exposures and create a testing plan.
- Individuals identified as close contacts will be directly notified by SNHD starting April 3rd, 2024.
Mandatory Testing for Close Contacts
Nevada law mandates TB testing for anyone considered a close contact with an infected individual. SNHD will coordinate testing for these individuals at the school on Wednesday, April 10th, 2024, at no cost.
Seek Medical Attention if Feeling Unwell
The letter advises anyone experiencing symptoms to consult with a healthcare provider or contact SNHD for guidance.

For any questions or concerns, parents, guardians, and staff can contact SNHD at (702) 759-INFO or (866) 767-5038, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
