RENO, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – The 37th Annual All Reno Radio Blood Drive is being held as the new year gets underway, and Vitalant, a nonprofit supplier of blood services in northern Nevada, is encouraging the locals to donate blood to save lives.
The beginning of the year is often challenging for blood banks around the nation, and because so many blood drives had to be postponed due to the bad weather, there is now a shortage at the banks.
This winter, Vitalant needs blood of all blood types, especially type O blood, which is frequently utilized for emergency and life-saving procedures.
This time, it’s our intention to collect more than 350 contributions. On January 4, they had already received more than 160 contributions.
Up to three lives can be saved with only one unit of blood.
“We typically see blood donation drop to its lowest level in December,” said Scott Edward, Senior Donor Recruitment Manager for Vitalant. “In northern Nevada we need at least 150 points of blood a day to care for local hospital patients. Every donation makes a difference in addressing our critical need for blood.”
The two-day event will take place from 10 a.m. on January 4 and 5 at Atlantis Casino Resort Spa. to 7 p.m.
All contributors will receive an Atlantis gelato, a Vitalant T-shirt that reads “I bleed Silver and Blue,” a Port of Subs sandwich and drink, and an entry into multiple radio station giveaways.
A $100 dinner credit and a one-night stay at the Atlantis are also included in the Atlantis Staycation Package, which will be given to one lucky donor.
By contacting 775-329-6451 or visiting vitalant.org/allrenoradio, donors may make an appointment. Additionally welcome are walk-ins.
