NEVADA – The teacher at Dilworth Middle School who was assaulted by a pupil on Thursday intends to file charges.
The instructor, who wished to be recognized only by her first name Lauren, said the student shoved her into a locker, causing injuries to her forehead, eye, and lip.
Jennifer Malaterre, a close friend, and fellow teacher, offered insight on the incident, even though she wasn’t yet comfortable recounting the story on camera.
Malaterre, who has taught math at the Sparks school for 13 years, claimed the situation has deteriorated in recent weeks, culminating in Thursday’s attack.

“I’ve never felt so disheartened and depressed about what I do,” Malaterre explained.
According to Malaterre, Lauren was attempting to prevent a late student from entering through an unsafe door. Lauren physically blocked the door and urged the student to enter through the main office’s single-point entry in order to be counted as tardy.
According to Malaterre, the teenager continued verbally attacking Lauren before throwing her into a locker.
According to district officials, 27 of Dilworth’s 33 teachers called in ill on Friday, forcing the school day to be canceled.
“I do feel unsafe returning to work,” Malaterre admitted.
Dr. Susan Enfield, Superintendent of the Washoe County School District, stated that officials are working with school site employees and leadership to resolve the situation and prevent it from happening again.
“Our central office team has been on site closely working with the school personnel to evaluate what happened and look at further measures that we can put in place to ensure that it doesn’t happen again,” Enfield said in a media interview Friday afternoon.
When asked how the pupil will be reprimanded, Enfield was unable to answer. She stated that additional district administrators will be present at the school on Monday and that the school will be open.
This school year has seen a “handful” such occurrences, according to Enfield.
