For Suicide Prevention Week in Nevada, the State Department of Health and Human Services Has Asked for Purple and Turquoise Lighting

NEVADA – Nevada Health and Human Services ask residents to light purple and turquoise for suicide prevention week.
From Sept. 4 to Sept. 10, individuals around the state are invited to light their skylines to remember suicide victims and remind others they are not alone.
Suicide kills 46,000 Americans annually. One Nevadan committed suicide every 14 hours in 2020.
Misty Vaughan Allen, Nevada’s Suicide Prevention Coordinator, said National Suicide Prevention Awareness Week and Month shines a light on a public health crisis that impacts all Nevadans. Please help us color our state purple and turquoise to show individuals affected by suicide they are not alone. We want to illuminate our state with involvement, connection, and optimism.
The 19th World Suicide Prevention Day will be held on Sept. 10, 2022.
Governor Steve Sisolak said, “I’m delighted to assist raise awareness for Suicide Prevention Month by painting many of our state buildings purple.” Nevada still has a lot of work to do, but we’re progressing toward our goal of zero suicides. Once is too many.
