NEVADA – Due to heavy snowfall and slippery conditions, a section of Mt. Rose Highway from Sunridge Drive to Douglas Fir has been closed until further notice. The authorities have not yet confirmed when the road will reopen, and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
After multiple spinouts over Donner Summit, I-80 was temporarily closed in both directions, but it has now reopened with chain controls in place. The California Highway Patrol in Truckee has urged motorists to drive with caution and to stay alert for any possible closures or delays.
I-580 in both directions at the Bowers Mansion turnoff has been closed due to whiteout conditions, and it will remain closed until further notice. Despite the sunshine in recent photos, the authorities are taking every precaution to ensure the safety of motorists.
Drivers planning to travel along mountain passes between Thursday night and Sunday morning are advised to expect chain controls and possible road closures. Additionally, there may be a few snow showers early Saturday morning, with precipitation switching to rain, which is expected to last until Sunday morning.
Another 6-12″ of snow is expected in the mountains, with 1-3″ possible around the valleys on Wednesday. To stay informed about the latest road conditions in Nevada, please call 511.
