In Sparks, a house fire is being investigated. On Wednesday, December 14, around 11:50 p.m., a fire broke out in the 100 block of East I Street.
The incident was reported by a bystander who said the entire house was engulfed in flames, according to Sparks fire chief Derek Keller. Within 5 minutes, five engines and 21 workers arrived at the house to discover just the adjoining side-garage completely burned.
The fire was quickly put out and restricted to the garage, but the house suffered heat damage. Overnight, crews were on the scene cleaning up.
NV Energy was also summoned and is looking into a downed power line in the backyard. It is unknown whether the electrical line was live when the fire started. According to NV Energy, the line went down due to the fire.
Keller further stated that the residence was assumed to be uninhabited and that the cause of the fire is not being investigated at this time. The fire investigator will conduct more inspections.
There were no reported injuries.
