Man Sentenced to 12 Years for Felon in Possession of a Gun Charges in Connection with Officer-Involved Shooting Case

NEVADA – Jeremiah Graham, 46, the brother of a man killed in a January 2023 officer-involved shooting in Reno, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison on two counts of being a felon in possession of a gun. Graham had previously pleaded guilty to the two felony counts. He will be eligible for parole after serving four-and-a-half years. The 12-year sentence is the maximum allowed for such a conviction.

The case against Graham stemmed from an incident where officers from the Reno Police Department responded to a call at an apartment complex on Sky Valley Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 31-year-old woman, later identified as Graham’s roommate, who had been assaulted by Graham. During their investigation, police found multiple firearms in the residence.

Later, RPD officers observed Graham and his brother, Scott Kennedy, returning to the apartment and collecting several guns. When an RPD officer attempted to engage with them, Kennedy fired at the officer using a semi-automatic rifle, striking him three times. In response, the officer fired back, killing Kennedy and injuring Graham.

The injured officer underwent multiple surgeries and survived but continues to recover from his injuries. An investigation concluded that Graham possessed firearms but did not discharge them nor directly cause injuries to the officer.

During the incident, Graham was found in possession of an AR-15 and a handgun, and additional guns were discovered in a safe within his apartment. Prior to this case, Graham had been convicted of three felonies, including two battery with a deadly weapon offenses, and a prior conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
