Fernley, Nevada – A gripping manhunt is underway in Lyon County as 30-year-old Cory Tyler managed to evade authorities after his initial arrest. Tyler was taken into custody on Friday afternoon after Lyon County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an incident in the 200 block of Granada Street in Fernley.
Tyler’s arrest was made on the basis of a Nevada Parole and Probation warrant, but what followed was an unexpected turn of events. After his apprehension, Tyler was transported to the Fernley Substation, where he was to be temporarily housed before being booked into the Lyon County Jail.
However, it was at this point that the situation took a dramatic twist. While at the substation, Tyler’s handcuffs were removed, and he was placed in a holding cell. Tragically, a critical security oversight occurred when the transportation deputy failed to properly secure the cell. Seizing this opportunity, Tyler made a daring escape when the deputy left the area.
As of the latest reports, Tyler is on the run, having fled southeast on foot. His current whereabouts are unknown, and law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to locate him.
Tyler is not only wanted for the original Nevada Parole and Probation warrant but is now also facing charges for felony Penalties for Prisoners Who Escapes.
While Tyler is believed to be unarmed, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is urging the public to exercise extreme caution and immediately contact a local law enforcement agency if they spot him. Authorities emphasize that aiding Tyler in any way is a punishable felony offense.
This incident remains an active and urgent investigation. Anyone who possesses information regarding Cory Tyler’s location is urged to contact the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office at 775-462-6620 or reach out by email to detective@lyon-county.org.
