NEVADA – Even though it was snowing, a lot of people went to USA Parkway to help out with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada’s Martin Luther King Jr. day of service.

David Torres brought his daughters to assist sort and categorize groceries.

“We learned about this occurrence as a family a few weeks ago. “We knew there was a lot of homelessness going on, so we decided to volunteer,” he explained.

According to the food bank, the volunteers’ efforts make a significant difference.

“A 2.5-hour volunteer will help thousands of people,” said Jocelyn Lantrip of the food bank.

She claims that the food bank serves around 137,000 individuals each month, and that many people want to assist make that happen.

“A lot of families have expressed an interest in volunteering with their children,” Lantrip noted.
