NEVADA – Governor Joe Lombardo has taken a significant step towards a cleaner and more sustainable transportation future by signing Assembly Bill 184, creating the Nevada Clean Trucks and Buses Incentive Program. The new law aims to accelerate the adoption of medium and heavy-duty electric trucks, buses, delivery vans, and more among small businesses, public agencies, and school districts.
The Nevada Clean Trucks and Buses Incentive Program received strong bipartisan support, as it utilizes federal funds coming to the state, providing crucial incentives to encourage the transition to clean vehicles. By getting more electric trucks and buses on the road, the program will contribute to reducing harmful pollutants such as particulate matter, ozone, and carbon dioxide.
“This forward-thinking law is a testament to Governor Lombardo’s commitment to supporting Nevada’s small businesses and public fleets in transitioning to clean, electric vehicles,” said Christi Cabrera-Georgeson, Deputy Director of the Nevada Conservation League. She highlighted the positive impact of the law on air quality, public health, and cost savings for businesses and public agencies.
In addition to AB 184, Governor Lombardo also signed Assembly Bill 262, known as the Clean Fleets law. This legislation focuses on helping state agencies improve local air quality by incorporating more electric and hybrid vehicles into their fleets. The move is expected to result in significant cost savings on out-of-state gasoline and diesel fuels, benefiting both the state and taxpayers.
These two bills represent crucial milestones in Nevada’s efforts to clean up its transportation sector, reduce air pollution, and support the growth of the state’s clean technology industry. With a commitment to sustainability and a focus on clean vehicles, Nevada is paving the way for a greener and healthier future.
