NEVADA – The “America’s Health Rankings 2022 Annual Report” is now available, and it revealed that Nevada ranked at the bottom or at the bottom of the states on a variety of healthcare measures.
Researchers from the UnitedHealth Foundation rated Nevada 49th in terms of public health funding and 50th in terms of the number of primary care doctors per 100,000 inhabitants.
The two initiatives are related, according to Marc J. Kahn, dean of the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine and vice president for health affairs at the University of Nevada, who encouraged the government to provide more slots for medical students to complete their training.
“Physicians are more likely to practice where they recently finished training,” Kahn observed. “For many of them, that means a residency and/or fellowship. And the number of residency opportunities available through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has been chronically under-allocated in Nevada.”
According to Dr. Rhonda Randall, chief medical officer for UnitedHealthcare employer and individual, the opioid problem increased from 2019 to 2020, resulting in a 30% increase in drug mortality.
“This is the highest annual spike in drug mortality since we started tracking it in 2007,” Randall said. “This indicates that roughly 92,000 more persons died in the United States due to drug injury and overdose than the previous year.”
According to the data, there has been an 18% increase in premature deaths per 100,000 individuals across the country.

Nevada was also ranked 47th in the US for both economic hardship and air pollution and 45th for low fourth-grade reading scores, according to the survey. On the plus side, the state’s housing stock has the lowest risk of lead poisoning in the country, and more than 92% of households now have access to high-speed internet.
This is the 33rd annual report and the first to incorporate statistics from the pandemic’s first two years.
