NEVADA – The U.S. Department of Education has announced that more than 3,600 Nevadans have had their student loans forgiven through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program since October 2021. This program provides loan forgiveness for public employees, including teachers, firefighters, law enforcement officers, and those working for nonprofit organizations, who have made the required 120 qualifying monthly payments.

Between October 2021 and May 2023, the program has provided over $256 million in loan forgiveness to eligible participants in Nevada. This initiative has helped ease the financial burden on public servants who have dedicated their careers to serving their communities. The loan forgiveness program has made it possible for these individuals to continue their important work without the added stress of student loan debt.
