NEVADA – A Pahrump man arrested this week for felony animal cruelty is suspected of killing another dog.
Apolonio Aniceto, 85, will face an additional charge of felony animal mistreatment, according to the Nye County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies investigating Aniceto for abandoning a dog at a Pahrump city landfill discovered another dog at his residence. Deputies reported at the time that the dog was in very bad shape and was suffering from an obvious medical problem.
The animal was transferred to a Las Vegas emergency veterinary clinic, where it was euthanized “due to being in serious, irreversible condition as a result of anti-freeze poisoning,” according to officials.
Aniceto was booked into the Nye County Detention Center after a public report led detectives to believe he dumped the first dog. On Christmas Eve, it was discovered “severely dehydrated and barely alive,” according to deputies.
The man who discovered the dog, called Cindy Lou by rescuers
“[The dog’s] back legs weren’t working, and it was dragging itself away from everyone,” James Kahl explained. “It pained for me to witness that.”
Cindy Lou will be memorialized, according to Kahl and his family.
