NEVADA – Sparks Police announce that McCarran is open for traffic following a car accident that occurred in the early hours of Friday morning. The incident took place just after midnight when a car ran off the road at McCarran Boulevard and rolled over, crashing into the backyard of a home on Gault Way. The car knocked out power to nearby homes after running into a power line, causing the lines to fall onto the car and in the backyard.
Authorities from Nevada State Police, Sparks Police, Sparks Fire, and NV Energy responded to the scene. Three passengers were safely removed from the car by Sparks Police. The driver was later arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
McCarran Boulevard was closed from 4th Street to Bering Boulevard as a result of the crash. Officials requested drivers avoid the area during the investigation. Highway Patrol troopers also closed McCarran from Probasco Way to Dana Way.
At 7:00 a.m., Sparks Police Department reminded motorists that eastbound McCarran remained closed between Pyramid and Probasco. Drivers were urged to avoid the area.
NV Energy worked to restore power to the affected homes throughout the morning. At 9:00 a.m., NV Energy confirmed that power had been restored to most homes in the area and that the rest were expected to have electricity by then.
One passenger was taken to Renown for treatment after sustaining injuries in the crash. Additionally, the car damaged fences at three separate homes.
