President Biden Approves Disaster Declaration for Nevada After Historic Winter Weather Events

NEVADA – President Joe Biden has approved a major disaster declaration for parts of Nevada in the aftermath of a historic winter that caused severe weather events such as winter storms, flooding, and mudslides. The declaration means that federal funding is now available to the state, tribal and other eligible local governments to cover emergency costs and repairs caused by these natural disasters.

The eligible counties for federal funding include Douglas, Eureka, Lincoln, Lyon, Mineral and Storey. The announcement comes as a relief to the affected areas, as the severe weather events caused significant damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure.

In addition to emergency costs and repairs, federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide. This means that the government will help fund and implement measures to reduce or eliminate the long-term risk of natural disasters.

The disaster declaration is a critical step in Nevada’s efforts to recover from the historic winter, as it enables communities to access the necessary resources to rebuild and prepare for future events. The federal assistance will not only provide financial support, but also offer a sense of hope and support to those who have been affected by the devastating weather.
