Professor Ends GoFundMe Campaign, Citing Deep Disappointment in Legal Battle

NEVADA – Dr. Feifei Fan, a professor at the University of Nevada, Reno, who had filed a lawsuit against the university alleging harassment and trafficking by another faculty member, has disabled her GoFundMe page aimed at raising funds for her legal fees. In a statement posted on the page, she mentioned that she had requested a refund, and donors should expect to see refunds within three to seven business days.

Dr. Fan expressed her gratitude for the support but also her disappointment, stating, “I appreciate your support, but I’ve deeply disappointed myself. I am unable to make any better changes; instead, I’m just dragging myself into an abyss, deeper and deeper, being severely tormented by reality. I hope that one day, when I’m strong, I can share all my painful struggles with you.”

Her lawsuit, filed in 2022, alleged that the University knowingly allowed senior professors to create a hostile work environment with alleged “underground sex slavery.” The lawsuit accused a fellow faculty member, Dr. Yanyao Jiang, of trafficking and claimed that the university failed to act during their investigation. Both Dr. Fan and Dr. Jiang remain current employees at the University.

In response to student protests over the university’s handling of sexual assault allegations stemming from Dr. Fan’s lawsuit, University of Nevada, Reno President Brian Sandoval issued a statement emphasizing the university’s commitment to providing a safe environment and increasing resources for Equal Opportunity and Title IX.

Students gathered at a university groundbreaking ceremony to draw attention to the allegations, calling for the dismissal of the accused professor involved in the trafficking claims.
