Reno Fire Department Does Demonstration of Burning Christmas Tree

RENO, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – The City of Reno is working to raise awareness of the value of fire safety, and the Reno Fire Department is assisting with this endeavor.

The Reno Fire Department burned a real Christmas tree on January 6 in honor of National Take Down Your Christmas Tree Day and to emphasize the value of removing dried trees (fuel) from the house.

One out of every 34 recorded house Christmas tree fires, according to the United States Fire Administration, resulted in a fatality.

After Christmas, a lot of these incidents happen because the tree was kept inside the house for too long and dried up, which led to the flames. These advice is provided by the Reno Fire Department:

Properly dispose the tree:

1. A dry tree will combust very rapidly once ignited. Because heated rooms dry out natural trees rapidly, it is time to get the tree out of the house.

2. Dispose of the tree properly. Trees can be taken to the following locations until January 10 for recycling.

Over the weekend of January 14 and 15, additional drop-off sites will be available. For further information and any temporary site closures resulting from bad weather, go to KeepTruckee Meadows Beautiful.

  1. Bartley Ranch Regional Park – 6000 Bartley Ranch Rd.
  2. Reno Sports Complex – 2975 N. Virginia St.
  3. Shadow Mountain Sports Complex – 3300 Sparks Blvd.
  4. TMFPD Station 32, Washoe Valley – 1240 East Lake Blvd
  5. TMFPD Station 46, Spanish Springs – 500 Rockwell Blvd
  6. TMFPD Station 440, Lemmon Valley
