Reno Works Has Assisted Eight Individuals in Leaving Homelessness

NEVADA – On October 25, 2022, at Reno City Hall, the City of Reno and Volunteers of America (VOA) Northern California and Northern Nevada celebrated the graduation of eight participants in the Reno Works program.

The first day of the most recent Reno Works session was August 1, 2022.

So far, five grads have found employment, two are getting their CDLs to become commercial drivers, and one is still looking for work.

Participants helped to beautify City of Reno parks and facilities in addition to taking advantage of training such as resume workshops, interview prep, dispute resolution courses, mock interviews, financial literacy, and renters workshops.

Reno Works relies on the generosity of the following businesses, and the City and VOA would like to extend their gratitude for their ongoing support.

• Caliber Hair & Makeup Studio – provided haircuts and styling
• Employ Nevada – provided orientation, connected the work crew to individualized services, and provided a workspace for online job searching with staffing
• Nevada Safety Training – provided OSHA 10 safety classes
• Pinocchio’s Bar & Grill – provided catering at the graduation ceremony

Since 2015, Reno Works has received several financial donations totaling more than $200,000.

Donors who wished to remain anonymous were also thanked by the City and VOA. The Reno Works program has received contributions from some individuals and businesses of up to $50,000.
