Sheriff Helps Kids Choose Gifts at Shop With a Sheriff Event at Walmart
NEVADA – It was another fantastic year as children beamed from ear to ear when selecting $200 worth of goodies at Walmart’s “Shop with a Sheriff” event.
Children went shopping with a deputy sheriff or representatives of other local organizations.
Juan David, a 12-year-old boy from Columbia who relocated here just two months ago, was among the hundreds of children that strolled through the Walmart doors. A new bike and a cart full with necessities like socks, milk, and breakfast stood immediately alongside him.
I am grateful to be here; I plan to ride this bike to school and have fun.
“Shop with a Sheriff” is one of the year’s busiest and most gratifying events. Sheriff Darin Balaam’s father started the practice 20 years ago. Sheriff Balaam explained,
It’s wonderful to carry on this tradition, and we do it for the kids; watching them come in joyful and delighted means the world to me.
